The Love Dare

Lately, my marriage has been going through a rough patch. We argue way more than we should and have just been plain hateful to each other at times. I am deeply in love with my husband; if I wasn't, I wouldn't put forth the effort to mend our marriage. This is not what I want for my marriage. This is not what I want for my son. And, to be honest, this is not what I want for me. Jerry and I both deserve better than this. So we decided to do something about it before nothing can be done. He refuses to see a counselor; he says he isn't going to pay someone to judge him, and there was no changing his mind about it. I tried. A lot. But, he did agree to a daily devotion together. I having been searching for a couple months now for the perfect devotion for us to do. And last week I found it.

The Love Dare is based on the movie Fireproof. It is a 40 day journey that, so far, has been life changing. Each day focuses on an aspect of love and then is followed by a "dare." The dares consist of things to do for your spouse(buying them something that says "I was thinking of you today") or things that focus on yourself and your behavior (not saying anything negative). My husband likes it, too! Today, I went in our room to do the devotion, which I usually read to him outloud. After I had read it, he handed me a piece of paper. It was a note. I won't put exactly what it said because my husband might not like that. He is a private person (hence him not wanting to see a counselor). But I will tell you the jist of it. He said that me and Cooper were everything to him and he couldn't imagine life without us. He also said he was skeptical at first when I suggested this, but he has already seen a difference and believes this was just what we needed.

We are only on Day 4 I believe. So we still have a long journey ahead of us. And I am sure the journey will continue after the 40 days. But I believe we are on our way to healing and that excites me.
